The Options you have for shipping cars overseas by ocean

• Roll On / Roll Off cargo is priced by the total cubic meters of a shipment (or, in the case that tonnage exceeds cubic meters, by the amount of short tons). If your vehicle is nearly as large as a 20' shipping container (dimensions of shipping containers), it may actually be more economical to ship it inside a container. This mostly applies to trucks (lorries) and wheeled construction equipment.
• Do I need to send personal effects with my vehicle?
• If you ship a car overseas on a Roll On / Roll Off vessel, every steamship line requires that no personal effects are left in the vehicle, and will reject the car if personal effects are present. So if you are moving or for some other reason have extra things to ship with the vehicle, you will have to send them separately, or put them together in a container.

Both shipping methods are secure, but a container will be sealed by the warehouse and not opened (unless given an intensive inspection by customs) until claimed at the port of discharge.

Another consideration for container shipping is the cost to unload the vehicle and return the empty container at the port of discharge, which are generally not included in our quotations, because the charges would be in the local currency and would have to be paid directly to the terminal/port.

When should I use a Flat Rack container? What is the size of a Flat Rack container?

If you are shipping cargo that has a height that exceeds the height or width of a normal container (Out of Gauge cargo), or cargo that cannot be loaded through the door of a standard container one of the options for international container shipping are Flat Racks. Flat racks are also often used for items that are too heavy for other shipping containers.

The efficiency that characterizes international ocean freight would not be possible without the progression of containerization of cargo. Vessels can be loaded with stacks of containers quickly, maximizing the carrying capacity of the vessels. This also makes it much less difficult to load and unload the vessel at ports by using cranes, and since the containers are inter-modal, they can be loaded onto a truck or train car for inland transportation. Flat racks have a high loading capacity, and are equipped with lashing rings on the side rails.

When looking for overseas car shipping service you have three options: shipping by container, shipping on a roll-on / roll-off (ro/ro) ship or shipping by air.  The most affordable option to ship your car internationally is using ro/ro service.  However, the misconception is that shipping an expensive car using ro/ro service is not safe.  Today we will help debunk the rumors on international ro/ro car shipping service.

Rumor #1: International Ro/Ro Shipping is Only for Inexpensive Cars

Did you know that ro/ro vessels not only carry cars but they also carry heavy duty trucks, construction equipment, and other heavy machinery.  Most of these items are worth in excess of tens of thousands of dollars.  Therefore, if it is safe to ship a $125,000 Caterpillar excavator on a ro/ro vessel, it is safe to ship a $125,000 Maserati.
