When shipping an
automobile, international shipping
companies will usually notify the customer of the two options of overseas
transport: container and ro/ro shipping. However, many customers don’t know the
pros and cons of each option. Fortunately, the shipping company will usually
make the right decision for their client, but that doesn’t mean the customers
shouldn’t be aware of the differences themselves.
Roll-on/roll-off shipping is typically for running
automobiles. Most people decide to use ro/ro vessels for contemporary or luxury
automobiles that are able to be driven up onto the vessel. This option is a
favorite because it is typically cheaper, depending on the final destination of
the cargo, and is safe. Because the vehicle is driven onto the vessel rather
than loaded into a container, there is a very low risk for damage to the car.
